Twin Oaks Toastmasters Function Scripts

These three functionary scripts (Timer, Grammarian, and, Financier) are provided here to help members prepare for these function ahead of the meeting. This is the same text provided in the respective folders at the meetings.

Duties of the Timer:

Timer Functionary Description

Part of the training in Toastmasters is to learn to speak in a timely manner. It will be my job today to time each of the speakers in the prepared Speeches, Table Topics, and Evaluators.

For the Prepared Speakers, I will hold up:
Green flag when you have 2 minutes to go
Yellow flag when you have 1 minute to go
Red flag when your time is up
You will still have 30 seconds to complete your speech at which time you must stop if the bell is rung.

For the Table Topics Speakers, I will hold up:
Green flag when you have met the minimum time of 45 seconds
Yellow flag when you have 15 seconds remaining
Red flag when your time is up
You will still have 15 seconds to complete your talk at which time you must stop if the bell is rung.

For the Speaker Evaluators, I will hold up:
Green flag when you have met the minimum time of 1 minute 30 seconds
Yellow flag when you have 30 seconds remaining
Red flag when your time is up
You will still have 30 seconds to complete your speech at which time you must stop if the bell is rung.

For the General Evaluator, I will hold up
Green flag when you have met the minimum time of 2 minutes
Yellow flag when you have 30 seconds remaining
Red flag when your time is up
You will still have 30 seconds to complete your speech at which time you must stop if the bell is rung.

Duties of the Grammarian:

Grammarian Functionary Description

My duties today as Grammarian are:
Produce the Word Of The Day
Listen and record misuse of grammar
Record picturesque use of the language
Track usage of Word Of The Day
When called on by the Toastmaster, give the report of these activities as requested.

Duties of the Financier (Ah-Counter)
Financier Functionary Description

Toastmasters attempts to teach us to speak in a clear and unobstructed manner. The use of “ah’s or um’s” or other vocal pauses can hinder our progress.
Today, it is my job during the entire meeting, except for the formal speaking program, to call your attention to these by clicking the frog. It is not intended to be offensive to you or the group. But simply give you a sense of awareness of an area in which you may choose to work. I will give my report at the end of the meeting.

Fines for each infraction will be:
5 cents (nickel) for the members working on their CC’s
10 cents (dime) for members working on their AC’s

Maximums:
50 cents for below CC’s
1 dollar for CC’s and above

When called on by the Toastmaster, give the report of these activities as requested.
